SARIKEI – Sarawak’s financial performance for the first six months of 2026 has been reported as strong, reflecting the state’s stable economic position and its ability to sustain development momentum.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg confirmed that reports received up to June indicated positive progress in Sarawak’s financial standing. He noted that the figures demonstrate resilience and provide confidence in the state’s capacity to continue advancing its development agenda.
“I follow the report I received, in six months our performance is good. What I can tell you is the figures I got up to June,” he said during a media session after the Sarawakku Sayang Sarikei Division Programme on Saturday.
The Premier attributed the encouraging results to the dedication of civil servants and the collective effort of all parties involved in managing Sarawak’s finances. He expressed appreciation for their commitment in ensuring that financial planning and management were carried out effectively.
According to him, the strength of Sarawak’s financial position is crucial for enabling the government to invest in strategic infrastructure projects and implement development programmes that directly benefit the people. He stressed that prudent financial management remains a priority to ensure the sustainability of growth.
Abang Johari explained that the positive performance provides Sarawak with a solid foundation to pursue long-term development goals. He emphasised that the government will continue to manage resources responsibly to maintain stability and resilience beyond 2030.
The Premier highlighted that financial strength is not only about figures but also about the ability to translate resources into meaningful projects. He pointed out that infrastructure development, social programmes, and economic diversification rely heavily on sound financial management.
He reiterated that Sarawak’s financial planning is designed to support both immediate needs and future aspirations. By maintaining discipline in expenditure and focusing on strategic investments, the state aims to ensure that growth benefits communities across all divisions.
The Premier’s remarks underline Sarawak’s broader vision of sustainable development, where financial stability serves as the backbone for progress. The government’s commitment to careful management is expected to safeguard the state’s capacity to weather global economic uncertainties while continuing to deliver improvements at the local level.
Civil servants have been recognised as playing a central role in this achievement, with their efforts ensuring that policies are implemented effectively. Their contribution has been described as vital in maintaining Sarawak’s strong financial trajectory.
Looking ahead, the Premier assured that Sarawak will remain focused on balancing fiscal responsibility with development ambitions. The state’s financial resilience is seen as a key driver in achieving long-term goals, including infrastructure expansion, economic diversification, and enhanced quality of life for residents.
