SIBU – A 35-year-old man was injured after the four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree in an early morning accident near SMK Rosli Dhobi, Jalan Deshon, today.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO) reported that they received a distress call at 6.15am, prompting the immediate dispatch of eight personnel and one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) from the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the scene.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found a four-wheel drive vehicle that had collided head-on with a tree at the roadside. One male victim was found injured but not trapped inside the vehicle,” said the PGO in a statement.

The Operations Release Team (PKO) on site carried out standard safety measures by instructing members to don full operational gear before disconnecting the vehicle’s battery to prevent any electrical hazard.

Firefighters then assisted Ministry of Health (MOH) paramedics in providing emergency treatment. “We helped install a cervical collar and applied a lower limb sling to the victim’s right leg,” the spokesperson added.

The victim, aged 35, was safely removed from the vehicle and handed over to a Sibu Hospital ambulance team for further medical attention.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the cause of the crash but reminded all drivers to exercise caution, especially during early morning travel when visibility may be limited.

The quick response by rescue personnel helped ensure the victim received immediate treatment and the scene was secured to avoid further risk to other road users.
