Seven Arrested, RM164k Drugs Seized in Sibu Police Operation

SIBU – Police in Sibu have arrested seven individuals, including an Indonesian national, and seized drugs valued at more than RM164,000 during a large-scale integrated crime prevention operation.

The operation, conducted by the Sibu District Police Headquarters from 10.00 pm to 3.00 am on 4 April 2026, involved 58 officers and personnel from multiple divisions.

Units participating included the Criminal Investigation Division, the Commercial Crime Investigation Division, the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division, and the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, as well as several local police stations.

Led by ASP Bill Azman anak Unjar, the operation targeted entertainment centres and business premises across Sibu. A total of 212 individuals were checked during the enforcement exercise.

Six local men were detained after testing positive for methamphetamine, ketamine and amphetamine. They are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which covers offences related to drug consumption.

In a separate case, an Indonesian man was arrested after police discovered a significant quantity of drugs in his possession. The haul included ketamine, Erimin 5 pills and powder believed to be ecstasy, with an estimated street value of RM164,695.

The suspect is now under investigation for trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, an offence that carries severe penalties including the possibility of capital punishment.

The operation reflects ongoing efforts by Sibu police to strengthen community safety and curb drug-related crime. Authorities have highlighted the importance of coordinated enforcement, combining multiple divisions to address both consumption and trafficking offences.
