Sarikei Couple Caught in Drug Trafficking Raid, RM9K Syabu Seized

Sarikei Couple Caught in Drug Trafficking Raid, RM9K Syabu Seized

SARIKEI, 1 May 2025 – A man and a woman suspected of running a drug trafficking operation along the Sarawak coast have been arrested in a late-night raid by Sarikei District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND).

According to Sarikei District Police Chief, Superintendent Aswandy Anis, the suspects were behaving suspiciously when officers raided a house around 9.30pm yesterday.

“Upon checking, our team found a packet of what is believed to be methamphetamine (syabu) on the table in the living room. The gross weight of the drugs was 82.20 grams, with an estimated street value of RM9,042,” he revealed in a statement.

A Toyota Hilux belonging to one of the suspects was also seized during the operation.

Superintendent Aswandy added that the suspects are believed to have been involved in drug distribution activities since early this year, targeting areas including Sarikei, Meradong, Tanjung Manis, and Belawai. Their operations are suspected to be carried out online, making detection more difficult.

Both suspects have been remanded for seven days at the Sarikei Police Station lockup under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The case is currently being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The police urge members of the public to come forward with any information related to drug trafficking or abuse activities in their neighbourhoods. Community cooperation remains a key element in the ongoing fight against drug crime.
