KUCHING, 2 May – A morning fire broke out at a plastic toilet bowl storage store owned by Kilang Madaya Sdn Bhd, located along Jalan Bintawa Village, sending thick smoke into the air and triggering swift emergency response from local fire crews.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed they received a distress call at 9.29 am. A fire team from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately dispatched, with backup from Padungan BBP, rushing to the scene roughly 6km away.
According to an initial statement by JBPM, the fire is believed to have originated from the plastic toilet bowl storage section of the premises. The Operations Commander, PBK I Daniel Teo, led the fire suppression effort on-site.
“The Operation Release Team (PKO) was mobilised as soon as the emergency call came in,” said the JBPM spokesperson. “Our teams are working diligently to bring the situation under control.”
Thankfully, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze from spreading to other parts of the facility, avoiding what could have been a more serious industrial incident.
As of now, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the Fire and Rescue Department will conduct a detailed assessment once the area is declared safe.
The incident has raised concerns about fire safety practices in industrial storage units, especially those handling plastic and flammable materials. Authorities are urging factory and warehouse operators to strictly follow safety guidelines to avoid such dangerous occurrences.
