76yo Woman Seriously Hurt After Car Plunges Into Kanowit Ditch

KANOWIT, May 6: A 76-year-old woman was seriously injured and left unconscious after the car she was in crashed into a roadside ditch along Jalan Lukut Penyulau this afternoon.

The incident happened around 3.45pm, prompting a swift response from the Kanowit Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), who received the emergency alert and immediately deployed a team to the scene.

When firefighters arrived, they found a Toyota Vios that had veered off the road and landed in a drainage ditch. The driver of the car, a 51-year-old man, escaped the crash unharmed.

Unfortunately, the elderly woman, who was seated in the back passenger seat, was found unconscious and suffering from injuries. Firefighters quickly acted to stabilise her condition. They fitted a cervical collar around her neck to prevent further injury and carefully used a stretcher to remove her from the car.

She was then handed over to paramedics and rushed to Kanowit Hospital for medical treatment.

The rescue operation was wrapped up by 4.30pm after firefighters confirmed that the surrounding area was safe and there were no further risks.

Authorities have not yet released details on how the accident occurred. Motorists are advised to drive carefully, especially along less visible or rural roads, to prevent such unfortunate incidents.

This is another reminder of the dangers faced by elderly passengers during road accidents, highlighting the importance of road safety and cautious driving at all times.
