17 Undocumented Migrants Nabbed in Saratok Farmhouse Immigration Raid

17 Undocumented Migrants Nabbed in Saratok Farmhouse Immigration Raid

SARATOK, 11 May 2025 – A midnight immigration raid named “Ops Sapu” led to the arrest of 17 undocumented individuals at a farmhouse in Saratok, according to the Sri Aman Immigration Enforcement Unit.

The operation, which took place at 12:13 a.m. on May 10, involved eight immigration officers who targeted a shared house located on a remote farm in the area. The detainees include 14 men and 3 women, all suspected of violating immigration laws.

According to the Department of Immigration Malaysia (Sarawak), the individuals were found without valid identification documents, and some were allegedly overstaying their visas. The enforcement team acted on prior intelligence suggesting that the house was being used to shelter undocumented migrants.

All 17 individuals were brought to the Sri Aman Immigration Office for further questioning and legal processing. Authorities confirmed that they will be investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63, and if found guilty, they may face deportation or other legal penalties.

A spokesperson for the Sri Aman Immigration Enforcement Unit stated that similar operations will continue across the state to crack down on immigration violations and ensure public safety.

“This is part of our ongoing commitment to uphold immigration laws and maintain order. We appreciate the cooperation of the public in providing tip-offs about suspicious activities,” the spokesperson added.

Operations like Ops Sapu are part of a larger national effort to identify and act against illegal foreign workers, ensuring that only those with proper documentation remain in the country.

The Immigration Department also urged employers to ensure their workers have valid work permits and identification, warning that employers who hire undocumented migrants can also face legal action. — Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia Sarawak
