BINTANGOR, 26 May 2025 – A senior citizen in her 60s was successfully rescued by villagers and her family members after a fire broke out in one of the rooms of her house in Lorong 1, Kampung Muhibbah yesterday.

According to Bintangor Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Mahmudin Narudin, they received an emergency call at approximately 3.30pm and immediately dispatched a fire brigade to the scene.

“When our team arrived, the fire had already been extinguished by villagers using water before our arrival,” he said when contacted.

He added that the fire affected only around five percent of the room, and no firefighting or rescue operations were necessary by the firefighters.

“Our team only carried out an inspection to ensure there were no further fire risks at the location,” he explained.

Mahmudin confirmed that the elderly woman was safely rescued by quick-acting villagers and family members during the incident.

The swift action of the local community played a vital role in preventing what could have been a tragic outcome. Their bravery and readiness to help are commendable, especially in ensuring the safety of vulnerable residents like senior citizens.

Authorities remind the public to always check electrical wiring and avoid leaving electrical appliances running unattended, particularly in homes occupied by the elderly.

This incident highlights the importance of fire awareness and emergency preparedness, especially in rural areas where professional help may take time to arrive.
