BINTULU – Member of the State Assembly (ADUN) Tanjong Batu, Johnny Pang Leong Ming, urges that the construction works of the Medan Bridge be expedited for the sake of the safety and comfort of road users, especially the residents of Bintulu.

Johnny Pang made the call through a media statement after conducting a dialogue session with the Department of Public Works (JKR), the contractor and engineering consultants involved, on Tuesday to review the progress of the important infrastructure project.

He stressed the importance of maintaining traffic safety alongside ensuring construction runs on schedule, especially as many residents expressed hope that the bridge could be completed as soon as possible.

“Besides safety, traffic smoothness is also given priority, and construction work should continue according to planning.

“I am also requesting contractors to increase their workforce in order to meet the target to be completed by December next year,” he said again.

According to him, the project also faced some coordination problems, mainly involving underground cable diversion works.

In this regard, he requested all agencies involved to sit down and seek an immediate solution.

In addition, Johnny Pang also informed that night construction shifts continue to ensure the project runs faster, however he advised drivers passing by in construction areas to be more cautious for their own safety.

“I do not intervene from a technical aspect, but my role is to ensure that the project runs smoothly, is safe and meets the interests of the people, especially when it comes to traffic and public safety,” he said.

Among the problems that are being pointed out are damaged roads, converging lanes, and uneven surfaces that can affect the comfort of drivers and residents, he said.

In this regard, Johnny Pang requested that JKR and the contractor immediately take appropriate corrective measures.
