BINTULU: The Sarawak Government continues to embrace a development model deeply rooted in Islamic values, social justice, and inclusive economic principles, in a vision aligned with the legacy of the Prophet Muhammad’s migration and the establishment of a just society in Medina.
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, reaffirmed this during the Sarawak-level Maal Hijrah Assembly held at the Bintulu Civic Hall on Friday. His speech was delivered by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
“Sarawak’s path to development is guided by values of justice, integrity, knowledge, and sustainability. Religion is not excluded from our progress — it is the core of our governance model,” he stated.
Among Sarawak’s key initiatives aligned with this philosophy are:
- The Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund (SSWFF) to secure long-term generational prosperity.
- A green economy approach, focused on digitalisation and inclusive, sustainable development.
- Free education for Sarawakians in state-owned higher education institutions.
In highlighting these efforts, the Premier stressed that the Sarawak Government’s policies reflect a commitment to holistic human capital development rooted in integrity, inclusivity, and faith.
“We take inspiration not just from physical migration, but also from intellectual and spiritual migration — towards better governance, work culture, and ethics,” he added.
The Premier also paid tribute to imams, mosque officials, Khairat Trust members, and religious teachers, acknowledging their essential role in anchoring the state’s spiritual and community wellbeing.
Notable attendees at the assembly included:
- Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi
- DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar
- Minister for Women, Children and Community Wellbeing, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah
- Deputy Ministers Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Dato Majang Renggi, and Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya
- State Assemblymen Johnny Pang Leong Ming (Tanjong Batu) and Iskandar Turkee (Jepak)
- JAIS Director, Mual Suaud, and other distinguished guests
The event marks Sarawak’s firm commitment to balancing material advancement with spiritual and moral integrity, in line with the aspirations of Maal Hijrah 1447H.
