KUCHING – Sarawak has achieved a significant milestone in its tourism sector, reaching half of its five million visitor target for 2025, according to Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Speaking at the ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program 2025 @ Sarawak held at the English Tea House, Dataran Ibu Pertiwi on Sunday, Abdul Karim revealed that Sarawak is currently recording between 400,000 to 500,000 visitors every month.
“This year, we aim for five million visitors to Sarawak. As of now, we have already reached half that number, and each month sees an influx of 400,000 to 500,000 visitors,” he said.
He added that Brunei remains the largest contributor, with over 200,000 Bruneians visiting Sarawak monthly, strengthening cross-border tourism in the region.
In the same event, Dato Sri Abdul Karim, who also serves as Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, reaffirmed the Sarawak Government’s and Malaysian Government’s commitment to youth empowerment, volunteerism, and fostering a borderless ASEAN future built on shared values and cooperation.
“The presence of ASEAN youth participants here proves that volunteerism is our region’s greatest strength, and solidarity is our most powerful tool for achieving collective progress.
“To the ASEAN youth—I say this sincerely—you are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the change-makers of today. You are shaping a better region through your ideas, actions, and unwavering spirit,” he said.
Also present at the event was Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, Adam Adli.
