Car Falls Into Unimas Lake, Woman Found Unconscious

KOTA SAMARAHAN : A Perodua Bezza car carrying two female passengers plunged into the lake at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) around 10.40 am today, sparking an immediate emergency response from nearby rescue teams and members of the public.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) dispatched a team of six personnel led by Mr. Cristian Olas upon receiving a distress call. The team arrived at the scene at 11.01 am.

Members of the public played a vital role in the rescue, managing to pull both victims from the water before the arrival of the fire brigade. One of the victims, a 50-year-old woman, was found unconscious and required immediate medical attention. The second victim, a 17-year-old teenager with a disability (OKU), was fortunate to escape the incident unharmed.

Rescue personnel proceeded to retrieve the fully submerged vehicle using rescue rope equipment. The operation concluded successfully by 11.55 am.

Medical officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) were also present at the scene and took over the treatment of the unconscious woman. She was stabilised and transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

As of now, the cause of the incident remains under investigation by the authorities. Early information suggests that the car may have lost control before plunging into the lake, but no official confirmation has been released.

Authorities are urging the public to be cautious while driving near water bodies, especially during unpredictable weather conditions.

This incident has sparked concern among locals, especially students and staff in the UNIMAS area, who frequent the vicinity of the lake.
