MIRI – A 22-year-old local man lost his life today in a tragic workplace incident at a vehicle workshop in Piasau, Miri, after being fatally struck by a car during routine maintenance work.

Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, confirmed the incident in a statement issued this evening.

“The victim, a 22-year-old local male, died after being hit by a car while performing maintenance work at the workshop,” said Mohd Farhan.

The case is currently being investigated as a sudden death report. Preliminary findings suggest that the incident occurred when the vehicle, which was believed to be undergoing inspection or repair, moved unexpectedly and crushed the victim.

Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.

Mohd Farhan also issued an appeal to members of the public who may have information about the case to come forward and assist with investigations. Those with relevant details are urged to contact the Miri Central Police Station at 085-427093 or reach out directly to Station Chief Inspector Nixon Malang at 016-8864949.

Additionally, the public has been reminded not to circulate or speculate about the tragedy online. Mohd Farhan strongly urged social media users to refrain from sharing graphic images of the victim out of respect for the deceased and their grieving family.

“Please do not upload or circulate photos of the deceased in such a condition. Let us respect the family’s dignity and sensitivity during this difficult time,” he added.

The incident has shocked the local community, raising fresh concerns over safety measures and procedures in automotive workshops. Authorities are expected to investigate whether safety protocols were in place at the time of the accident.
