The 4.8-kilometre bridge, inaugurated just last month on July 23, made its debut as the main route in this year’s prestigious marathon, symbolising Sarawak’s continued growth in infrastructure and sporting culture.

Runners were treated to panoramic views of Kuala Kemena River and the modern cityscape of Bintulu — an experience many described as unforgettable.

General Manager of the Bintulu Development Board (BDA), Datu Muhamad Yakup Kari, praised the event for enhancing Bintulu’s profile among global runners.

“The experience of running on the bridge was not only challenging, but also very riveting and added value to the marathon this time,” he said during a press conference after officiating the event.

He added that the marathon goes beyond a sports competition — it stimulates Bintulu’s economy through increased hotel bookings, local dining, shopping, and tourism-related activities.

The event also came alive thanks to the strong presence and support of the Bintulu community, who lined the route to cheer on runners and offer encouragement.

“Their presence along the route motivates the participants a lot and makes the event come alive with community spirit,” he added.

Looking ahead, Datu Yakup confirmed that the Bintulu Marathon 2026 has been scheduled for 2 August 2026, with ambitions to further expand its international draw.
He hopes the event will continue growing into one of Sarawak’s most iconic sports attractions.
