MIRI – A plywood manufacturing factory located along Jalan Lusut, Taman Tunku, was completely destroyed in a massive fire that broke out in the early hours of this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre said they received a distress call at 2.12am, and firefighters from three stations — Miri, Lopeng, and Lutong — were immediately dispatched to the site, located about 15 kilometres from the nearest station.
The fire, which engulfed the entire permanent structure of the plywood factory, was brought under control at around 3.35am after intense firefighting operations. According to the operations commander, the blaze destroyed approximately 100 percent of the building.
Firefighters used both direct and defensive firefighting techniques to contain and extinguish the flames. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

The operation was led by PKPgB Bonny Martin Saging Mato, Head of the Miri Fire and Rescue Station. The team supervisors were PBKI Abd Rahman from BBP Miri, PBKI Rorudi Umas from BBP Lopeng, and PBKII Awang Arizal from BBP Lutong. A total of 22 firefighters were deployed, assisted by three Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engines and two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) units.
After successfully bringing the fire under control, the team continued with mop-up operations to ensure that all remaining flames and hotspots were completely extinguished before returning to their stations.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Sarawak Energy’s Sesco team were also present at the scene to assist. The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.

This incident marks one of the largest industrial fire cases reported in Miri this year, raising concerns over fire safety measures in local manufacturing facilities.
