Chinese Teen Betrayed by 17yo Girlfriend, Sold to Myanmar Scam Syndicate for RM59k

Chinese Teen Betrayed by 17yo Girlfriend, Sold to Myanmar Scam Syndicate for RM59k

A 19-year-old teenager from China has been left traumatised after being betrayed by his 17-year-old girlfriend, who sold him to a scam centre in Myanmar for nearly RM59,000.

According to a report by 8World News, the victim had believed he had found love when he met the girl at a recreational centre last year. His sister revealed that the girl often appeared in flashy clothing and carried designer handbags that looked like counterfeits. She also introduced herself as someone from a wealthy family, claiming her parents were investment managers with businesses in Myanmar.

Over time, she convinced the victim to follow her abroad, suggesting work opportunities in Myanmar. His sister described him as “a typical love-sick person” who easily fell in love and trusted others.

A Trip That Turned Into a Nightmare

In February this year, the victim secretly travelled to Bangkok with the girl without informing his family. His family only discovered his whereabouts after seeing posts on social media.

However, the situation quickly escalated when the girl lured him to the Thailand-Myanmar border before abandoning him. Shortly after, an armed man appeared, seized his passport and phone, and escorted him into a scam compound in Myanmar.

There, his head was shaved, and he was forced to work between 16 and 20 hours daily conducting online scams. When he failed to meet targets, he was beaten with a metal rod, locked in a dark room, and often left without food. After months of abuse, he even lost his hearing.

Family Paid Over RM200,000 for His Release

To secure his freedom, the syndicate demanded compensation. His family eventually raised CNY350,000 (RM205,886) to buy his release, allowing him to return home in June after four months in captivity.

Meanwhile, the teenage girlfriend was arrested during her return trip to China after spending 10 days in Thailand. She is now facing fraud charges and a trial.

The victim’s family, who said he still suffers nightmares and paranoia, hopes that she will face the maximum punishment for her betrayal. – Worldofbuzz
