BAU – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its support for community-led initiatives promoting women’s health, with Deputy Minister of Transport (Rivers and Marine) Dato Henry Harry Jinep praising the Gerak Grinas 2025 Programme for its timely focus on wellness and empowerment.
Speaking at the Kampung Segong Community Hall on Saturday, Dato Henry emphasized that women often shoulder multiple responsibilities, which can lead to personal health being overlooked.
He commended the programme for raising awareness and encouraging women to prioritize their well-being, enabling them to contribute more effectively to both family and society.
Organized by the Kampung Segong Women’s Bureau, the event drew participation from 15 Women’s Bureaus across the Singai area.
The programme featured a mix of educational and recreational activities, including health talks and exhibitions by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM).
Participants also enjoyed Zumba sessions, a healthy cooking competition, and sports activities, all designed to promote wellness in a relaxed, community-friendly setting.
The event highlighted the importance of integrating health education with fun and accessible formats to reach wider audiences.
Dato Henry expressed hope that similar programmes would continue in the future, serving as platforms to empower women physically, mentally, and socially. “Such efforts are vital in building a resilient and health-conscious community,” he said.
Among the dignitaries present were Bau District Officer Eddy Nayoi, Bidayuh Community Leader Robert Tom Juin, Singai Area Head Morris John Siren, Segong Village Chief Amy Munga, and Gerak Grinas 2025 Organizing Chairperson Aline McMiller.
The initiative aligns with broader global efforts to close the women’s health gap, as highlighted by recent reports from the McKinsey Health Institute and World Health Organization, which call for inclusive, community-based strategies to improve health outcomes for women.
