Elderly Motorcyclist Killed in Tragic Crash Along Jalan Tun Jugah

KUCHING – A 69-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a tragic road accident along Jalan Tun Jugah, opposite Gala City, late this morning.

The victim, identified as Lim from Muara Tebas, was riding his motorcycle at about 11.10 am when the incident occurred.

According to eyewitness accounts, Lim’s motorcycle collided with a van, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the road. In the tragic sequence of events, he was then struck by an oncoming lorry.

Emergency medical personnel rushed to the scene but confirmed that Lim had died instantly due to severe injuries. His remains were later sent to Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Kuching District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that investigations into the accident are currently underway. “We are looking into the circumstances of the collision and will record statements from witnesses. The case will be investigated in accordance with the law,” he said.

The fatal accident caused traffic congestion in the busy stretch of Jalan Tun Jugah as police and rescue teams worked to clear the scene. Motorists travelling in the area experienced delays, but traffic flow resumed gradually after the victim’s body and the involved vehicles were removed.

This incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by motorcyclists on city roads. Jalan Tun Jugah, one of Kuching’s busiest roads, has recorded several accidents over the years, prompting calls for stricter road safety awareness and better traffic management.

Members of the public are urged to remain cautious, especially in high-traffic areas, and to report any reckless driving to the authorities. Police have also requested witnesses or those with dashcam footage of the accident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
