Sarawak Debuts International DanceSport Championship in Kuching

KUCHING – Sarawak is set to make history by hosting its first Sarawak International Open DanceSport Championship on September 20, 2025, at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching (BCCK).

The event, organized by the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) with recognition from the DanceSport Federation of Malaysia, will feature approximately 200 participants and guests from seven countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and India.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan emphasized the championship’s role in advancing sports tourism and providing global exposure for local talents.

The competition will include categories such as Latin, Standard, and Breaking, with divisions for Open, Adult, Youth, Junior, and Children participants. A total prize pool of RM30,000, including RM15,000 in cash vouchers, will be awarded to winners.

The event aims to blend competitive excellence with cultural exchange, reflecting Sarawak’s commitment to fostering regional friendship and Olympic values.

Supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia and the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, the championship is expected to draw over 300 spectators for the grand finale.

Datuk Snowdan also acknowledged SDA Chairman Chester Lim Hian Thoong and his team for their dedication in orchestrating the event.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts to position Sarawak as a hub for international sports and cultural events, leveraging state-of-the-art venues like BCCK and promoting community engagement through performing arts.
