Brunei Darussalam Team Lands in Kuching for Borneo Games 2025

KUCHING — The Brunei Darussalam contingent touched down in Kuching today ahead of the opening of the Borneo Games Kuching 2025, arriving at Padang Bilun International at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Day One of the regional sporting event.

Leaders of the contingent were received by officials including the chairperson of the Borneo Games Kuching 2025 Organising Committee, representatives from the Minister’s office, and members of the Sarawak People’s Committee.

The group includes athletes, coaches and supporting team officials. They are slated to compete alongside peers from Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, and East Kalimantan, encompassing the five participating contingents in this year’s event.

Borneo Games Kuching 2025 is scheduled to run from 24 to 28 September, with the Petra Jaya Sports Complex serving as the primary venue.

The competition will feature a mixture of core sports and traditional disciplines, designed to promote regional camaraderie and offer developing athletes a platform to compete.

According to recent reports, about 1,000 athletes are expected to take part, representing the five aforementioned contingents.

As of September 7, 357 athletes have formally registered. Sports to be contested include athletics, swimming, badminton, archery, lawn bowls, traditional games such as tug-of-war and blowpipe, plus an invitational golfers’ event.

Organisers say the arrival of the Brunei team marks the start of a series of arrivals from all contingents.

Preparations at venues are in the final stages, with upgrades made in many facilities following last year’s Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
