Missing Elderly Man Found Dead in Decomposed State in Batu Niah

MIRI: The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a 77-year-old man came to a tragic end last night when his body was discovered in a decomposed state in the Sebubok area, Batu Niah.

Chong Nyuk Fan, a resident of Senadin, was reported missing after leaving his home on September 14, driving a white Toyota Hilux Vigo. Despite his family’s frantic search efforts, Chong had not been seen for more than a week.

The vehicle was later found abandoned near the Ngu Niah intersection on September 17, but there was still no sign of Chong. Police, together with the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), launched extensive search operations in the area.

According to a spokesperson from JBPM’s Operations Centre (PGO), the department received a call from the police at 9.18pm. Six personnel and two vehicles were mobilised to a location approximately 28 kilometres from the station. The team conducted a thorough ground search within a 50-metre radius of where the vehicle had been found.

“Within about 20 minutes, the victim was located in a tall grass area on the side of the road in a decomposed state,” the spokesperson said. “The body was then handed over to the police for further investigation.”
