Sarawak Explores AI Chip Partnership With South Korea's Rebellions

Sarawak Explores AI Chip Partnership With South Korea’s Rebellions Inc.

A high-level delegation from Sarawak has conducted a strategic working visit to South Korean artificial intelligence chip designer Rebellions Inc., signalling a significant move to advance the state’s semiconductor ambitions.

The delegation was led by Deputy State Secretary for Economic Planning and Development, Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel.

Their discussions in Seongnam City focused on potential collaboration in semiconductor development, a sector central to the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap.

This engagement aligns with Sarawak’s goal of becoming a global semiconductor hub by 2030. The meeting was part of broader state efforts to forge international linkages and attract high-value, innovation-driven investments.

Sarawak Explores AI Chip Partnership With South Korea's Rebellions Inc.

Rebellions, represented by its CEO and Co-Founder Sunghyun Park, is a key player in South Korea’s semiconductor scene.

The company has attracted significant investment, including a recent $250 million funding round that featured backing from chip design giant Arm.

Sarawak is actively building its technological capacity. The recent RM3 billion expansion of the X-FAB semiconductor foundry in the Sama Jaya High Tech Park has strengthened Malaysia’s position in the global supply chain. This creates a fertile environment for potential high-tech partnerships.

During the talks, Mr. Park expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Malaysia, and particularly Sarawak, on joint innovation in AI and semiconductor technologies.

The dialogue is seen as a step towards building a formidable global partnership for the state’s burgeoning tech sector.
