SONG – A dedicated initiative to curb the spread of rabies was reinforced in Song last Friday with the implementation of a Rabies-Free Community Programme.
The event, held at the Kapit District Council Office’s Song Branch, offered a suite of essential services to local residents.
These services comprised complimentary anti-rabies vaccinations, dog licensing, and microchipping for identification.
Furthermore, educational sessions were conducted to inform the public about the dangers of rabies and crucial prevention methods.
The programme is a collaborative effort between the Kapit District Council, the Kapit Division Veterinary Department, and the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
Despite inclement weather, the event witnessed strong public participation. Residents attended with their pet dogs to avail themselves of the vaccinations, demonstrating a growing community commitment to responsible pet ownership and public safety.
Personnel from the organising bodies, including environmental health officers, were on-site to administer the procedures.
This ongoing government effort forms a key part of a broader strategy to establish comprehensive rabies-free zones across rural communities in Sarawak.
The proactive engagement in Song highlights the continued focus on containing the disease through vaccination and public awareness.
