MIRI – The Malaysian Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, JIM) successfully carried out Ops Gegar and Ops Pintu in various areas around Miri from 24 to 25 October 2025. The joint enforcement operation, conducted by the Security and Enforcement Monitoring Unit (UPKP), is part of the department’s continuous effort to curb immigration offences and maintain public safety in Sarawak.
The operation involved a team of 15 immigration officers, focusing on areas known to have a high concentration of foreign nationals and business premises suspected of employing undocumented workers. During the inspection, a total of 60 individuals were screened to verify their identities and travel documents.
Out of those inspected, 33 individuals — consisting of 7 men and 26 women — were detained for various immigration offences. The violations included breaches under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, along with several other offences under the Immigration Regulations.
All detainees were taken to the Miri Immigration Office for further investigation and legal action. The department also confirmed that these operations are part of a long-term enforcement initiative aimed at reducing the number of illegal immigrants in Sarawak.
In a statement, JIM Sarawak emphasized its firm commitment to ensuring that no individual or business takes advantage of the system by harbouring or employing undocumented migrants. The department further encouraged members of the public to report any information regarding the presence of illegal immigrants (PATI) to support ongoing enforcement efforts.
Such cooperation, JIM said, is vital in safeguarding community safety and ensuring that Malaysia’s immigration laws are respected by all parties.
