ASAJAYA – Kampung Tambirat has been formally designated as a Drug-Free Adopted Village under the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Kota Samarahan, marking a significant milestone in the district’s community-led fight against substance abuse.
The announcement was made during the Community Empowerment 2025 programme, held at the Kampung Tambirat Multi-Purpose Hall. The initiative aims to strengthen awareness, foster strategic planning, and encourage collective responsibility among residents in building a healthier and more resilient society.
In his address, Asajaya District Officer Jerry Zannuddin Bidin underscored the importance of sustained cooperation. He noted that the effort was not only about eradicating drugs but also about safeguarding the future of younger generations, ensuring they grow up in an environment that promotes health, safety, and prosperity.
AADK officers briefed villagers on the requirements for achieving official drug-free status. These include continuous education campaigns, coordinated community surveillance, and support systems for individuals affected by drug misuse. The agency emphasised that long-term success depends on active participation from all levels of society.
Community organisations such as the Community Leaders and Community Chiefs (KMKK) and the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) were highlighted as central to the initiative. Their role in mobilising activities, spreading information, and maintaining public engagement was described as the backbone of the programme.
Interactive training sessions were conducted, enabling participants to design targeted strategies that involve residents of all ages. Organisers stressed that addressing drug abuse is a shared responsibility, extending beyond enforcement agencies to include families, schools, and peer networks.
Residents were encouraged to take proactive roles, from early detection of potential cases to providing peer support for those in need. The programme concluded with an evaluation session to measure awareness levels and identify areas for improvement. Villagers were also given the opportunity to exchange ideas and propose community-driven solutions.
With strong backing from AADK and the active involvement of local residents, Kampung Tambirat is now moving forward with renewed determination to achieve recognition as a drug-free model village. The initiative is expected to serve as a reference point for other communities within Kota Samarahan and potentially across Sarawak.
Present at the launch were Head of AADK Kota Samarahan, Farid Bujang, and Penghulu Kampung Tambirat, Tamel Bujang, who both expressed confidence that the village could become a leading example of community resilience against drug abuse.
The programme reflects the state’s broader agenda to nurture safer neighbourhoods and empower citizens to take ownership of social challenges. By combining education, vigilance, and community solidarity, Kampung Tambirat is positioning itself as a model for sustainable grassroots prevention.
