KUCHING, 10 Nov — The Community Health Carnival: Integrative Medical Services for Local Residents held at Chung Kong Hall, Batu Kitang, drew a large turnout as residents took advantage of the free healthcare services provided.
The programme, jointly organised by the Local Community Committee and the Tzu Chi Foundation, was officiated by Batu Kitang State Assemblyman (ADUN) Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang. The event aimed to promote health awareness, disease prevention, and closer community ties through accessible medical services.
The one-day carnival provided a wide range of medical offerings, including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments, modern medical consultations, dental check-ups, and health screenings for the public — all at no cost. Visitors were seen queuing early in the morning, eager to benefit from the free services provided by volunteer doctors and healthcare practitioners.
Dato Lo commended the collaboration between local authorities and volunteer organisations such as the Tzu Chi Foundation, emphasising that the health and wellbeing of the community must remain a shared priority.
“With strong cooperation between local bodies and volunteer organisations, programmes like this can continue to serve the people. It not only raises awareness about the importance of regular health check-ups but also strengthens community unity,” he said during the launch.
He added that such community-driven efforts reflect the government’s continuous commitment to improving the quality of life for the people, particularly in semi-urban areas like Batu Kitang.
The event also included health talks, nutritional guidance, and blood pressure and glucose monitoring, aimed at encouraging preventive healthcare practices among residents.
The organisers expressed their appreciation for the overwhelming response and hope to make the Community Health Carnival an annual initiative to promote holistic wellness and neighbourly spirit.
