Malaysia Supports SEA Games 2025 Preparations at SEAGF Meeting

BANGKOK – The Fourth Coordinating Committee Meeting of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) for the upcoming Thailand SEA Games 2025 has confirmed participation figures and finalised organisational updates, with Malaysia showing strong support through its official delegation.

The meeting, held on Thursday, reported that a total of 22,132 individuals will be involved in the biennial event.

This includes 8,270 athletes competing across multiple sports, 3,950 team officials managing contingents, and 9,534 technical and support personnel such as referees, venue managers, marshals, and volunteers.

In addition, 378 VIPs and accompanying delegates have been confirmed to attend, ensuring smooth protocol operations.

The session was chaired by Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, SEAGF Chief Executive Officer, and attended by Dr Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, and Norapol Tantimontri, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports Thailand, alongside members of the Thailand SEA Games 2025 organising committee.

During the briefing, organisers confirmed that the 2025 edition will feature 50 sports covering 105 disciplines, with three demonstration sports and one exhibition sport, totalling 573 events.

Progress reports were presented by several committees, including International Relations and Secretariat, Competition Management, Support and Services, Broadcasting and Media, and Technical Committees.

Thailand, which has hosted the SEA Games six times previously, provided a comprehensive overview of its readiness, highlighting venue preparations and operational strategies.

Following the meeting, the Malaysian delegation will embark on a benchmark visit to several competition venues.

The visit is intended to gather insights into technical requirements, venue standards, and competition operations, forming part of Malaysia’s preparation as host of the SEA Games 2027.

Malaysia’s delegation included Datu Hii Chang Kee, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations), Abdul Rashid Yaakub, Chief Executive Officer of MASOC and ASEAN Para Games 2027, Dato On Jabbar, Johor Deputy State Secretary (Youth, Sports and Volunteers), Morshidi Frederick, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, and Harry Chai, Director of the Penang State Sports Council. Representatives from the organising committees of Sarawak, Johor, and Penang also joined the visit.

Officials emphasised that Malaysia’s participation in the meeting and venue visits reflects its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and ensuring smooth preparations for its own hosting duties in 2027.
