KOTA KINABALU – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim continued his two-day visit to Sabah with a strong message of support for communities affected by hardship, pledging immediate assistance and reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the people.
During his stop in Kampung Petagas, Anwar met residents who were recently struck by a fire that destroyed homes and disrupted livelihoods.
He instructed federal and state agencies to expedite relief measures, ensuring that victims receive urgent aid and support to rebuild their lives.
The Prime Minister also visited Kampung Duvanson in Putatan, where he engaged with residents facing health challenges.
Expressing empathy, Anwar prayed for their resilience, saying he hoped they would be granted the strength to endure the difficulties they are facing.
In his remarks, Anwar stressed that the government’s responsibility extends beyond immediate relief to long-term welfare and development.
He pointed to the Budget 2026 allocation for Sabah, which has been raised to nearly RM17 billion, the highest among all Malaysian states.
This, he said, demonstrates the administration’s determination to address Sabah’s pressing needs and ensure equitable progress.
“May they be given the fortitude and strength to face this test. The government will continue to ensure that the welfare of the people in Sabah is safeguarded, and this is proven through the development allocation for Sabah under Budget 2026, which has increased to almost RM17 billion, the highest compared to other states,” Anwar stated.
The Prime Minister’s engagements in Kota Kinabalu highlight the Federal Government’s dual approach of immediate humanitarian response and long-term development planning.
His visit comes at a crucial time, with Sabah’s infrastructure and social challenges under close scrutiny ahead of the 17th Sabah State Election.
Observers note that Anwar’s emphasis on welfare, disaster relief, and increased allocations reflects the government’s broader MADANI agenda, which prioritises inclusivity, fairness, and sustainable growth.
The visit also underscores the importance of federal-state cooperation in ensuring that Sabah’s rights and needs are fully addressed.
