NAIROBI – Malaysia and Kenya have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, with both nations agreeing to expand cooperation across a wide range of strategic sectors during high-level meetings in Nairobi.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and President Dr William Samoei Ruto led their respective delegations in detailed discussions aimed at deepening the Malaysia-Kenya partnership.
The talks covered trade, investment, agriculture, the halal industry, education, human capital development, and digital technology, alongside emerging opportunities in renewable energy, sustainable urban development, and creative industries.
Malaysia expressed its readiness to support Kenya’s ambitions as a key hub in East Africa, particularly in areas such as digital innovation, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and capacity building.
Prime Minister Anwar emphasised that this aligns with Malaysia’s longstanding commitment to South-South cooperation, which seeks to strengthen collaboration among developing nations.
The leaders also exchanged views on pressing regional and global issues. Discussions included the Palestinian and Sudanese situations, humanitarian conflicts, and the wider challenge of climate change.
Both sides highlighted the urgent need for reform of the international system to ensure it is more inclusive, equitable, and reflective of the voices of developing countries.
Malaysia acknowledged Kenya’s important role as host to several United Nations agencies, noting that this positions Nairobi as a centre for international dialogue and cooperation.
Building on this, both governments agreed to expand collaboration on sustainable urbanisation and resilient urban development, recognising the importance of addressing rapid urban growth in a way that benefits citizens.
Prime Minister Anwar expressed appreciation for President Ruto’s warm hospitality during the visit and extended an invitation for him to visit Malaysia in the near future.
The gesture reflects the shared desire to strengthen people-to-people connections and ensure that bilateral cooperation translates into tangible benefits for both nations.
The Nairobi meetings mark another milestone in Malaysia–Kenya relations, reinforcing six decades of friendship and opening new pathways for strategic collaboration across diverse sectors.
