KUALA LUMPUR – A health club operating in the heart of Chow Kit was exposed as a hotspot for immoral activities after a major police raid led to the arrest of 208 individuals, including 17 civil servants, last night.
The operation, carried out at about 8pm, was led by the KL Strike Force under the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) with support from the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). According to police, the team had been conducting intelligence work and discreet monitoring for two weeks before moving in on the premises.
Kuala Lumpur Deputy Police Chief Datuk Mohd Azani Omar said the raid revealed a health club that was operating far from its stated purpose. Instead of promoting healthy lifestyles, the premises had allegedly become a meeting point for perverted and inappropriate sexual activities involving both locals and foreigners.
“We arrested a total of 201 visitors and seven workers aged between 19 and 60, including 24 foreigners,” he said during a press briefing. The involvement of 17 civil servants has raised concerns about discipline and integrity within the public sector.
Datuk Mohd Azani added that the operation was necessary to curb moral misconduct and prevent such activities from spreading in the city. He also stated that investigations are ongoing under relevant laws, including those related to public indecency and misuse of business premises.
Authorities believe the club had been in operation for some time, cleverly masking its activities behind the label of a ‘health premises’. Police are now reviewing business documents, licences, and financial records to determine how the operation managed to run undetected for so long.
The detainees have been brought to the police station for further questioning and screening. Those involved may face various charges, depending on their level of participation.
The police have also urged the public to play their role by reporting suspicious activities taking place in commercial premises, especially in densely populated urban areas like Chow Kit.
This case adds to the growing list of enforcement actions taken in Kuala Lumpur to protect public morals and ensure the city remains safe and orderly. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to tighten monitoring and step up inspections on entertainment and wellness outlets that may be hiding illicit operations behind legitimate business fronts.
