His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has granted permission for the Federal Government to utilise two high-powered airboats belonging to him as part of the assets for flood rescue operations.
The decision comes amid unpredictable weather conditions and concerns over a possible second wave of flooding. The airboats, currently stationed at Istana Negara, are expected to enhance operational efficiency and accelerate the delivery of emergency assistance to affected communities.
His Majesty’s gesture reflects his continued concern for the safety and welfare of the people. In March 2023, three of his airboats were mobilised in Johor to assist flood victims. At that time, the vessels were used to evacuate stranded residents and deliver food supplies to Orang Asli settlements in Kluang that had been cut off due to rising waters.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed deep appreciation for the contribution, describing it as a demonstration of the King’s compassion and commitment to public welfare.
“This donation shows His Majesty’s great concern for the safety and welfare of the people, especially in the affected areas. On behalf of the MADANI Government, I express my highest appreciation for this support which will strengthen preparedness and launch rescue operations with agencies on the ground if a second wave of flood disaster occurs,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that the cooperation between His Majesty and government agencies would ensure that rescue missions are carried out swiftly and effectively. He emphasised that collective efforts are vital to safeguard lives and provide relief to those impacted by natural disasters.
The deployment of the airboats is part of broader preparations by Malaysia’s security and emergency agencies to respond to potential flooding. With the King’s assets now available, authorities are expected to be better equipped to reach remote and isolated areas, ensuring aid is delivered promptly.
This latest initiative highlights the importance of unity and shared responsibility in disaster management. It also underscores the role of national leadership in supporting frontline agencies during emergencies, reinforcing Malaysia’s resilience in the face of climate-related challenges.
