BINTULU – Teachers have been reminded to continuously enhance the quality of education delivery and avoid complacency with current achievements, as part of efforts to prepare students to become responsible future leaders.
Jepak State Assemblyman Iskandar Turkee emphasised the crucial role educators play in shaping human capital. He said professionalism, effective teaching methods, and adaptability to change must remain a priority in the education sector.
“Students need to be guided comprehensively because they do not just gain knowledge in the classroom, but are also formed as important assets for the country, encompassing academic, personality and leadership aspects,” he noted.
His remarks were delivered through a speech read by Noriha Ali, Women’s Head of the United Bumiputera Party (PBB) Jepak, during the Student Achievement Awards (MAKEM) 2025 at SMK Kemena on Tuesday.
Iskandar highlighted that student excellence should not be measured solely by academic performance. He stressed the importance of character development, discipline, and critical thinking skills to ensure students remain competitive in a rapidly changing environment.
He also pointed out that the success of the education agenda depends on strong collaboration between schools, parents, and the wider community. Such cooperation, he said, is essential to creating a supportive and effective learning environment.
“The success achieved today should not cause us to be complacent, but rather be an encouragement to continue to improve the quality of education to keep up with current demands,” he added.
The assemblyman further explained that teachers face increasingly complex responsibilities, including adapting to digital teaching methods and supporting students in the post-pandemic era. These challenges, he said, require continuous professional growth and resilience.
MAKEM 2025 was described as an important platform to recognise the efforts of both students and educators. The event also aims to foster a culture of excellence across schools, encouraging staff to pursue holistic development in education.
The call for improved education delivery reflects broader concerns in Sarawak about preparing young people for leadership roles and ensuring they are equipped with the skills and values needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
