LUNDU – The Sarawak Technology Excellence Centre (CENTEX) Lundu Campus has celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of transformation for rural youth and communities.
Since its establishment, nearly 8,000 individuals have benefited from its programmes, underscoring its role as a catalyst for human capital development in the region.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, who officiated the anniversary celebration on Wednesday, highlighted the centre’s achievements in producing skilled graduates and providing training opportunities for local residents.
He noted that 2,600 graduates have successfully completed their training at CENTEX Lundu, while more than 4,400 residents have participated in various skills initiatives.
“This shows that CENTEX Lundu is not only a training centre, but an institution that excels in producing quality, skilled graduates, ready to meet the needs of today’s industry,” Billy said.
He explained that the centre’s training approach emphasises practical and professional learning, ensuring that participants gain real-world skills to enhance their employability.
The initiative aligns with the Sarawak Government’s broader objective to build a highly skilled workforce, reduce reliance on foreign labour, and promote inclusive economic growth across both urban and rural areas.
Billy expressed gratitude to the management, lecturers, trainers, and staff of CENTEX Lundu for their dedication in strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Sarawak.
He also reaffirmed his support for the state government’s TVET agenda, spearheaded by the Sarawak Premier, describing CENTEX as a vital instrument in human capital development.
Looking ahead, Billy urged CENTEX Lundu to expand its course offerings to meet future industry demands, strengthen partnerships with the private sector, and continue providing opportunities for rural students, particularly from Opar and Tanjong Datu.
The event was attended by Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan and CENTEX Sarawak chief executive officer Datuk Syed Mohd Hussein Wan Abd Rahman, who joined in celebrating the centre’s decade-long contribution to education and skills development.
Over the past ten years, CENTEX Lundu has become a cornerstone of rural transformation, offering pathways for young people to acquire technical expertise and professional competencies.
Its success reflects Sarawak’s commitment to bridging the gap between rural communities and industry needs, ensuring that local talent is nurtured to drive sustainable development.
