Kaul Mukah 2026 Scheduled for April with Ritual Seraheng Kakan

MUKAH – The celebrated cultural festival Kaul Mukah 2026 has been confirmed to take place from 27 April to 3 May at the Kala Dana Beach Kaul Site, with the traditional Kaul Seraheng Kakan ritual scheduled earlier on 25 April.

The announcement was made during the first meeting of the Kaul Mukah 2026 Main Committee, held at the Sarawak Government Administration Centre in Mukah Division.

The session was chaired by Abdul Yakub Arbi, Balingian State Assemblyman and President of the Mukah Melanau Association (PMM). The meeting focused on appointing organisers and setting the groundwork for the festival’s planning.

Kaul Seraheng Kakan will highlight the original Kaul ritual, a practice deeply rooted in Melanau traditions and customs.

The ritual involves a ceremonial boat procession from Sungai Tellian to Muara Batang Mukah, culminating at Tugek Kala Mukah.

This segment of the festival will be overseen by the Kaul Asal Standing Committee (JKTeKA), chaired by the Penghulu of Kampung Tellian.

Abdul Yakub emphasised that Kaul Mukah continues to serve as a vital cultural platform, preserving Melanau heritage while fostering community unity.

He noted that the inclusion of Seraheng Kakan ensures the festival remains authentic and meaningful to the local community.

The Kaul Mukah festival is one of Sarawak’s most iconic cultural events, attracting visitors from across the state and beyond.

It combines traditional rituals with modern festivities, offering cultural performances, exhibitions, and community activities that showcase the richness of Melanau heritage.

Also present at the committee meeting were Royston Valentine, Tellian Assemblyman, and Shafrie Saili, Mukah Division Deputy Resident.

Their participation underscored the collaborative effort between local leaders and community organisations in preparing for the event.

Kaul Mukah has long been recognised as a symbol of Melanau identity, with its rituals reflecting values of gratitude, harmony and respect for nature.

The 2026 edition is expected to draw significant attention, reinforcing Mukah’s position as a cultural hub in Sarawak.

With preparations now underway, organisers are confident that Kaul Mukah 2026 will continue to strengthen cultural pride while offering a vibrant experience for both locals and visitors.
