On 12 June 2026, residents along Jalan Hak Sa Leong received their bins as part of the council’s ongoing programme to improve waste management and promote cleaner neighbourhoods.

The distribution was led by Cr Tan Kai, Chairman of MPP, who emphasised the importance of proper waste disposal in maintaining public health and environmental standards.

The initiative reflects MPP’s broader strategy to reduce indiscriminate dumping, which has been a recurring concern in several residential zones.

By equipping households with their own bins, the council hopes to instil a sense of responsibility among residents and ensure that waste is collected systematically.

Local authorities have long highlighted the challenges posed by illegal dumping, which not only creates unsightly surroundings but also poses risks to drainage systems and contributes to pollution.

Programmes such as this distribution are designed to tackle these problems at the source by providing practical solutions for households.

Residents welcomed the move, noting that having individual bins would make waste disposal more convenient and reduce the likelihood of rubbish being left in public spaces.

The council has also encouraged residents to cooperate with waste collection schedules to maximise the effectiveness of the initiative.

Cr. Tan Kai reiterated that community cooperation is essential in ensuring the success of the programme.

He stressed that while the council can provide facilities, long-term cleanliness depends on residents adopting responsible habits and discouraging illegal dumping practices.

The distribution at Jalan Hak Sa Leong is part of a phased rollout across Batu Kawa, with MPP planning to extend the programme to other areas under its jurisdiction.

The council’s efforts underline its commitment to improving urban living standards and fostering civic responsibility among communities.
