JPJ Bintulu Steps Up Daily Road Patrols, 39 Vehicles Inspected

BINTULU – The Road Transport Department JPJ Bintulu Branch has increased its presence in the city through daily operational patrols to improve road safety and ensure that traffic regulations are adhered to.

The operation, conducted by the JPJ Bintulu Operations Unit, includes patrols and observation at strategic locations in Bintulu City. The purpose of the patrols is to identify traffic offenders, deter drivers from driving dangerously, and increase awareness among drivers.

In the most recent enforcement operation, a total of 39 vehicles were inspected by the officers. This was in relation to both private and commercial vehicles. The checks were carried out on driving documents, the condition of the vehicles, as well as road safety legislation.

As reported by JPJ, there were several serious offences that were discovered during the inspection. Among the offences discovered included drivers disobeying red traffic lights, persons driving without a valid driving licence, and vehicles being driven with an expired road tax. There were also several technical offences discovered.

Traffic enforcement is still one of the main tasks of JPJ across the country, especially in urban areas where traffic density is higher. Statistics from the national road safety organizations have shown that traffic offenses such as running red lights and driving without proper documents are among the main causes of road accidents in Malaysia.

JPJ Sarawak reiterated that it would be tough on any road user who fails to comply with traffic laws. The department said that the enforcement of traffic laws was not only meant to punish road users, but it was also a preventive measure to ensure the safety of all road users, including pedestrians, motorcyclists, and passengers of public transportation.

“JPJ Sarawak will not tolerate any road user who fails to comply with the prescribed road laws and regulations. Strict action will be taken against any individual who commits an offence and endangers the safety of other road users,” said JPJ Sarawak.

The department also reminded drivers that observing road traffic rules is a collective responsibility. Documentation, observing road traffic signals, and ensuring that vehicles are roadworthy are key components in the reduction of road accidents and deaths.

In recent years, JPJ has increased the use of continuous patrols and spot checks, especially during weekends and peak periods. This is in line with the overall national effort initiated by the Ministry of Transport to enhance road safety and minimize traffic-related incidents.

Motorists are advised to make sure that their licences, road tax, and insurance are valid, and their vehicles are in good technical condition before embarking on a journey. JPJ Bintulu has stated that their daily activities will continue, with enforcement officers still active in the city to ensure that the roads are safer for the people.
