JPJ Kuching Seizes Three Vehicles in Special Ops

KUCHING – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) carried out a special enforcement operation in Kuching on Sunday, targeting motorcycles, foreign drivers and luxury vehicles in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2026.

The Kuching JPJ Operations Unit conducted patrols and monitoring across the city, alongside static enforcement at Jalan Setia Raja. The initiative was part of a proactive measure to ensure road users comply with traffic laws and to maintain safety during the festive season.

During the operation, a total of 294 vehicles were inspected. Officers identified several offences, including driving without a valid licence, failing to wear seat belts, and technical issues relating to vehicle condition.

Three vehicles were seized following the checks. A Toyota Vellfire and a Perodua Bezza were confiscated for expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and lack of insurance coverage. In addition, a Perodua Kenari was taken into custody after it was found that the foreign driver did not possess a valid driving licence.

JPJ Sarawak has emphasised that enforcement activities will continue to be intensified to safeguard road safety. The department reminded motorists to ensure all documents are valid and vehicles are in proper condition before use.

Authorities have consistently highlighted the risks posed by unlicensed drivers and uninsured vehicles, stressing that such offences can endanger both the driver and other road users. With festive seasons often seeing increased traffic, JPJ’s operations are aimed at reducing accidents and ensuring compliance with regulations.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of enforcement and urged the public to cooperate by adhering to road laws.
