KUCHING – The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) continued its annual Ramadan initiative with the distribution of bubur lambuk at the Stutong Ramadan Bazaar today.
The event formed part of the MBKS Ramadan Programme, aimed at fostering community spirit and togetherness during the holy month. The distribution was graced by Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government.
Also present were Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of MBKS, and Dato Zaiedi Suhaili, Deputy Mayor of MBKS, alongside councillors and community representatives. Their participation underscored the council’s commitment to engaging directly with residents and promoting the values of care and sharing.
The bubur lambuk distribution has become a symbolic tradition during Ramadan in Malaysia, often organised by local councils, mosques, and community groups. It reflects the spirit of generosity and unity, bringing people together regardless of background.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng highlighted the importance of such initiatives in strengthening community bonds. He noted that the programme not only provides food but also reinforces the values of compassion and inclusivity that define Ramadan.
The Stutong Ramadan Bazaar, a popular destination for festive food and gatherings, provided the perfect setting for the distribution. Visitors expressed appreciation for the effort, which added to the vibrant atmosphere of the bazaar.
MBKS has consistently organised community-centred programmes during festive seasons, aligning with its broader mission to promote social cohesion and public well-being.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to continue similar initiatives in the future, ensuring that the values of sharing and unity remain central to its activities.
