KUCHING – The strong cooperation between the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government has enabled several issues to be resolved amicably, according to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg.
Speaking at the MADANI 2026 Breaking of Fast Ceremony at the Sarawak State Grand Mosque on Friday, the Premier highlighted that unity and camaraderie between both administrations have paved the way for constructive solutions that benefit the people.
“Alhamdulillah, with unity and camaraderie between the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government, it seems that the problem has been resolved and settled. We are discussing amicably and finding a solution together,” he said.
Earlier, the Premier met with Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Kuching Division Development Meeting at the Satria Pertiwi Complex. The discussions centred on strengthening collaboration to address challenges and support Sarawak’s development agenda.
The Premier also noted that Sarawak continues to ease the burden of its people through initiatives such as the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS) programme. Under this scheme, approximately RM650 million has been allocated to assist low-income households, particularly in coping with rising living costs.
He explained that the initiative complements Federal Government efforts to safeguard welfare while maintaining economic stability. The Premier added that Sarawak’s growing attractiveness to foreign investors reflects the positive impact of these joint measures.
On international matters, the Premier expressed confidence in Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s role in engaging with leaders of Muslim countries to address pressing global issues. He noted that such diplomatic efforts could have significant implications for political and economic stability worldwide.
“We pray that the Honourable (Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim) can contribute ideas to calm the current situation, because it will certainly have a great impact on world politics and ensure a more peaceful situation,” he said.
The event was attended by key figures including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusoff, Senate Speaker Senator Dato’ Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, Deputy Premiers of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nasar, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar, and Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki.
The ceremony underscored the importance of unity between federal and state leadership, reinforcing Sarawak’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.
