Pipe Leak at Simpang Tiga, Supply Unaffected

KUCHING, March 19 – Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd has confirmed that a pipe leak involving a 12-inch SI pipe occurred at the Simpang Tiga intersection here today following ongoing construction activities by the KUTS contractor.

In a media statement issued this morning, the water utility company assured the public that despite the incident, water supply and pressure for both residential and commercial consumers in the affected areas remain stable and unaffected.

According to the statement, the leak resulted in water overflowing onto parts of the roadway near the busy junction. The overflow has raised concerns over possible impact on traffic flow and road safety, particularly during peak hours.

The company said it is closely monitoring the situation on site and working with relevant parties to manage the overflow while rectification efforts are underway. The leak was attributed to construction works being carried out in the vicinity by the contractor involved in the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.

While essential water services continue without disruption, the main concern at present is the safety of road users passing through the affected stretch. Motorists have been urged to reduce speed when approaching the Simpang Tiga intersection and to exercise heightened caution due to wet road conditions.

Drivers are also advised to be alert for potential road hazards, maintain a safe following distance, and strictly adhere to traffic management plans implemented at the site. Flagmen and temporary signage have been deployed to guide vehicles and ensure smoother traffic movement in the area.

SWSB expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to the public and thanked road users for their patience and cooperation as its technical team works to resolve the matter promptly.

Members of the public seeking further information may contact the SWSB Southern Region Call Centre at 082-222333 or reach out via WhatsApp at 019-8866650.

The authorities have reminded commuters that safety must remain the top priority. With ongoing infrastructure development taking place across Kuching, cooperation between contractors, utility providers and the public is essential to minimise disruptions and ensure public safety at all times.

The situation remains under observation and further updates will be provided if necessary.
