Bintulu is seeing tighter enforcement as Road Transport Department Malaysia continues its push during Hari Raya Aidilfitri travel.
On March 22, officers from JPJ Sarawak, through its Bintulu branch, inspected 77 vehicles across Bintulu. The checks picked up a range of offences, including drivers using mobile phones, not having a valid licence, expired road tax, missing insurance, and technical faults. Authorities confirmed that action was taken against those involved.
The Bintulu operation forms part of a wider effort across the state. JPJ Sarawak has deployed hundreds of officers during the festive period, combining enforcement with outreach to keep roads safer. The aim isn’t limited to penalties, it’s about getting drivers to follow the rules and cutting down risks.
Similar checks have taken place in Kuching, Miri, Sibu, and Kota Samarahan. These include inspections of express buses and other public service vehicles, making sure they meet safety standards before operating. With more people travelling, these inspections carry added importance.
At the national level, JPJ has expanded its monitoring with drone surveillance. Within the first few days, thousands of offences were recorded, such as dangerous overtaking, misuse of emergency lanes, and ignoring traffic signals. These cases are now being processed for enforcement action.
The department has also worked with local organisations and fuel stations to run safety campaigns. Drivers are reminded to check their vehicles before long journeys and ensure all documents are valid.
