BETONG – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak, through its Betong branch, stepped up enforcement on 23 March under Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026, covering Betong, Pusa, and Saratok. Patrols and monitoring focused on keeping roads safe as festive travel picks up.
During the operation, officers checked 25 vehicles of various types. Several offences came up, including drivers without valid licences, vehicles missing registration numbers, and mechanical issues that raised safety concerns.
JPJ took action against those who broke the rules, following existing laws. The department made it clear that enforcement matters, especially during Hari Raya Aidilfitri when traffic increases and risks tend to rise with it.
Ops HRA runs nationwide each year to reduce accidents and push for better compliance with road regulations.
The Betong branch’s role shows JPJ Sarawak’s focus on safety not only in major cities but also in smaller towns. Similar operations are ongoing across Malaysia to keep enforcement consistent.
Drivers have been urged to take responsibility on the road. Carrying valid documents, keeping vehicles in good condition, and driving with care all play a part in reducing accidents.
Festive periods often bring heavier traffic and a higher chance of incidents. Alongside enforcement, JPJ continues its awareness efforts to remind motorists about safe driving habits. The goal stays simple: fewer accidents and safer journeys for everyone.
The Betong operation reflects a firm approach toward traffic offences. Regular inspections and penalties are meant to discourage risky behaviour and reinforce the need to follow the law.
With Hari Raya approaching, JPJ Sarawak is again calling for public cooperation. Following traffic rules isn’t only about avoiding penalties; it’s about protecting lives on the road.
