Elderly Woman Rushed to Mukah Hospital After Being Found Unconscious

MUKAH – Emergency responders from the Mukah District Civil Defence Force (APM) were called to a residential property on Tuesday after an elderly woman was discovered unconscious in her bedroom.

The medical emergency, which occurred on 31 March 2026, required a rapid and highly coordinated effort to ensure the victim received life-saving treatment at the nearest medical facility.

The Mukah District Emergency Operations Centre (PKOD) received an urgent distress call from a member of the public who reported the situation. Upon arrival at the scene, APM personnel were directed to a private room where they found the elderly female victim completely unresponsive.

Given the gravity of her condition, the team immediately prioritised a safe and swift extraction from the residence.

To move the patient without causing further physical trauma, the responders utilised a scoop stretcher. This specialised piece of medical equipment is designed to slide under a patient without the need for significant lifting or rolling, which is critical when a person is in an unconscious or fragile state.

The use of such equipment reflects the high level of technical training provided to Sarawak’s Civil Defence units for handling complex medical cases (SKT).

Once the victim was securely stabilised on the stretcher, she was carefully transferred into a waiting ambulance. Paramedics monitored her vital signs throughout the journey as she was rushed to the Mukah Hospital for emergency admission.

Hospital staff took over the case immediately upon arrival to conduct diagnostic tests and determine the underlying cause of her sudden loss of consciousness.

Medical emergencies involving the elderly, such as sudden fainting or prolonged unconsciousness, can be linked to a variety of serious health issues, including stroke, cardiac distress, or severe dehydration.

The “golden hour”, the critical period following the onset of symptoms, is vital in these instances, and the APM’s prompt response played a key role in narrowing the gap between the initial discovery and professional clinical care.

The operation was concluded successfully once the patient was handed over to the hospital’s trauma and emergency department.

Local authorities have praised the quick-thinking witnesses who called for help, noting that early intervention is often the most significant factor in positive health outcomes for the elderly in our community.
