SARATOK – A monitor lizard hiding beneath a pile of wooden boards in Kampung Melango, Saratok, was successfully captured by the Civil Defence Force (APM) following a public complaint.
The incident took place on 5 April 2026, when residents alerted the Saratok District APM about the reptile’s presence. Responding promptly, a team of four personnel was dispatched to the site to handle the situation.
Using the snaring technique, the officers managed to secure the lizard without causing harm to themselves or the animal. The operation was completed smoothly, and the area was declared safe after the capture.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident. The successful intervention reassured the local community, which had been concerned about the potential danger posed by the reptile.
Monitor lizards are commonly found in rural and semi-urban areas across Sarawak. While generally not aggressive, they can pose risks if threatened, particularly to children or pets. Their presence in residential areas often prompts calls for assistance from local authorities.
