SARATOK – The Saratok District Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully captured a rare snake reported to have “two heads” in Kampung Tanjung on 6 April 2026. The unusual reptile, identified as belonging to the cylindrophiidae family, measured about one foot in length.
The operation was launched after a complaint from the public alerted authorities to the presence of the snake in front of a house.
A team of three members from the Alpha Squad was immediately deployed to the location. The capture was carried out safely and without incident, ensuring that the reptile was removed from the residential area.
Officials confirmed that the snake was secured without harm to residents or the responding team. The case has drawn public attention due to the snake’s unusual appearance, which sparked concern among villagers.
While snakes with deformities or rare physical traits occasionally appear in nature, authorities stressed that all wildlife encounters should be treated with caution.
The APM Saratok reminded residents to remain vigilant and avoid attempting to handle snakes or other dangerous animals themselves.
Instead, the public is urged to contact the relevant authorities immediately for assistance. Quick reporting allows trained personnel to respond effectively and prevent potential risks.
Wildlife encounters in Sarawak’s rural and semi-urban areas are not uncommon, particularly during periods of changing weather when animals may wander into human settlements.
The Civil Defence Force continues to emphasise the importance of community cooperation in ensuring safety.
This latest incident highlights the readiness of APM teams to respond to emergencies beyond disaster management, including wildlife control.
