BINTULU – The construction of the new double-lane road leading to Bintulu Airport is progressing ahead of schedule, reflecting strong commitment from all parties involved in the project.
On 13 April 2026, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (Infrastructure Development), Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, visited the project site to personally review its progress.
He was accompanied by technical officers and representatives from related agencies, ensuring that the implementation continues to align with the planned schedule.
During the site inspection, officials confirmed that the project is advancing faster than expected. This development has boosted confidence in Sarawak’s ability to deliver strategic infrastructure projects efficiently.
The road, once completed, is expected to significantly improve connectivity, enhance local economic growth, and facilitate smoother travel for residents and visitors.
Datuk Ir Aidel emphasised the importance of conducting field visits, noting that projects should not be assessed solely through reports.
He explained that on-site reviews allow for a more comprehensive understanding of progress and help identify potential issues early.
This proactive approach ensures that projects are executed with high-quality standards and deliver maximum benefits to the people.
The new airport road is regarded as a vital infrastructure initiative for Bintulu, supporting both regional development and Sarawak’s broader economic agenda.
Improved access to the airport is expected to strengthen trade, tourism, and investment opportunities, while also easing daily travel for the community.
The deputy minister highlighted that the success of this project demonstrates Sarawak’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development as part of its long-term growth strategy.
He reiterated that efficient project delivery is crucial to meeting the state’s aspirations for modernisation and economic resilience.
With progress ahead of schedule, the Bintulu Airport road project stands as a positive example of effective collaboration between government agencies, contractors, and technical teams.
It reflects Sarawak’s determination to build infrastructure that supports both immediate needs and future ambitions.
