PADAWAN – The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), in collaboration with Emart Matang, successfully concluded its Earth Day 2026 Buy Back Campaign on 24 April.
The half-day event, which ran until 12.30 PM, encouraged residents to participate in recycling and sustainability initiatives while offering convenient community services on-site.
Held at Emart Matang, the campaign provided a platform for the public to sell e-waste items, dispose of used cooking oil responsibly, and donate pre-loved clothing.
In addition, attendees were able to settle their assessment payments (cukai pintu) directly at the venue, making the campaign both environmentally and socially beneficial.
The initiative was designed to raise awareness of sustainable practices and promote responsible waste management.
By offering multiple services under one roof, organisers aimed to make it easier for residents to contribute to environmental protection while addressing everyday needs.
According to MPP officials, the Buy Back Campaign reflects the council’s ongoing commitment to environmental health and community engagement.
Events such as this not only reduce waste but also foster a culture of recycling and reuse, which is essential in building a cleaner and greener city.
The campaign also highlighted the importance of partnerships between local authorities and private businesses.
Emart Matang’s involvement demonstrated how commercial outlets can play a role in supporting sustainability goals by providing accessible venues for public participation.
Community members responded positively to the initiative, with many taking the opportunity to dispose of items responsibly and contribute to recycling efforts.
Organisers noted that the turnout reflected growing public interest in environmental sustainability and the willingness of residents to support green initiatives.
MPP reaffirmed its commitment to continue similar programmes in the future, emphasising that collective action is key to achieving long-term environmental goals.
The council encouraged residents to remain proactive in adopting sustainable habits and to participate in upcoming campaigns aimed at strengthening community responsibility for the environment.
