DARO – Deputy Minister of Health, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, visited Daro Hospital as part of the Sarawak Borneo Health Tour (Series 2) to assess facilities and review healthcare service needs in the district.
Her arrival was welcomed by Igan Member of Parliament Ahmad Johnie Zawawi, Daro State Assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, and hospital staff.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), Sarawak State Health Department, and Mukah Division Health Office also attended.
The programme began with a briefing by Dr Alhusna Dahlan, who outlined the hospital’s background, current operations, and service capacity.
Key challenges highlighted included the need for improved facilities, medical equipment, and manpower resources to strengthen healthcare delivery.
A separate briefing by Dr Fatih Nuraf’idah Zulkifli covered services at the Daro Health Clinic, including outpatient care, maternal and child health, and community health programmes.
Dr Jong Fung Yung from the Daro Dental Clinic presented updates on dental services, noting efforts to expand access to rural communities and the need for additional equipment.
Hanifah later toured several main units of Daro Hospital, including the outpatient ward, maternal and child delivery ward, and support facilities, to review daily operations and preparedness levels.
She emphasised that the visit aimed to provide a comprehensive picture of on-the-ground needs, particularly in strengthening rural health infrastructure where geographical challenges remain significant.
Daro Hospital, operating for 32 years, serves as the main referral centre for residents in Daro, Matu, and Pulau Bruit, providing essential treatment, emergency services, and continuous healthcare.
The Borneo Health Tour initiative reflects the government’s commitment to directly assess health facility needs and devise targeted improvements, ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for rural and interior communities.
