The initiative, held in three major urban centres, aimed to provide participants with a thorough legal briefing to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Act.

The sessions were designed to strengthen enforcement mechanisms while promoting awareness of the protections available to gig workers under the law.

The first session took place on 24 April 2026 at the Sultan Iskandar Building in Kuching, followed by a second session on 27 April at Wisma Persekutuan in Sibu.

The final session was held on 30 April at ADTEC Miri. Each briefing brought together stakeholders from various sectors, reflecting the department’s proactive approach to ensuring that gig workers are adequately informed of their rights.

The Gig Workers Act 2025 was introduced to provide a legal framework for the growing gig economy, addressing issues such as social protection, welfare, and fair treatment.

By implementing these information sessions, JTK Sarawak seeks to ensure that gig workers are not left vulnerable in an evolving labour market.

Officials emphasised that strict and sustainable enforcement of the Act will serve as a protective shield for gig workers, defending their livelihoods, elevating their dignity, and guaranteeing continuity for future generations.

The department reiterated its commitment to ensuring that gig workers enjoy the same level of protection afforded to traditional employees.

The sessions also provided a platform for dialogue, allowing participants to raise questions and clarify aspects of the law.

This interactive approach ensures that gig workers and employers alike understand their responsibilities, thereby fostering compliance and reducing disputes.

JTK Sarawak has expressed hope that these efforts will contribute to a more equitable labour environment, where gig workers can thrive under the protection of the law.

The department plans to continue similar initiatives to reinforce awareness and strengthen enforcement across Sarawak.
