BINTULU – The Storytelling Competition 2026, held in conjunction with the nationwide “Let’s Read Together 10 Minutes” programme, successfully took place at ParkCity Mall Bintulu on 25 April.
Running from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm, the event drew enthusiastic participation and highlighted the importance of nurturing reading habits among children.
The competition attracted 27 participants across two categories, showcasing talent in both Malay and English storytelling.
Organisers emphasised that the programme was designed not only to uncover hidden abilities but also to build self-confidence and encourage a love for reading among young learners.
The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by Mr. Latif bin Upit, Senior Manager of the Landscape and Public Facilities Division (LPA).
He was joined by Mr. Affendi bin Iezara, Manager of the BDA Public Library. Their presence underscored the significance of the event in promoting literacy and language skills among the younger generation.
Two invited jury members were acknowledged for their dedication and professional assessments throughout the competition. Their evaluations ensured that the winners were selected fairly and that participants received constructive feedback to support their growth.
In Category A (Malay Language, Level 2), the champion title went to Faydelyn Shareen anak Aban. Damia Alisha binti Abdullah secured second place, while Mohamad Khaliq bin Buang came third. James Lajang anak Nelson Jalin and Dayang Ernie Nurfathonah binti Awang Ahmad rounded out the top five.
Category B (English Language, Level 2) saw Nathaniel Ding Joseph Glorry emerge as champion. Cassandra Kong Yee Xue claimed second place, followed by Auni Zaskia binti Mohammad Zul Hazman in third. Phan Yu Han and Gabriella Hannah Gup were awarded fourth and fifth places respectively.
The organisers expressed deep appreciation to ParkCity Mall Bintulu for its cooperation and support, which played a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of the programme.
Their contribution highlighted the importance of community partnerships in fostering educational initiatives.
Beyond the competition results, the event was seen as a catalyst for shaping a knowledgeable, confident, and competitive generation.
